Which Cyprus Are You?
Eight questions. One corner of the island that fits you.
Cyprus is small enough to drive across in three hours and varied enough that two people can have completely different holidays on it. Eight questions, one honest answer about where you should actually base yourself.
Start with these
The six answers, and who each one is for
You are Paphos Ruins, coves and long slow evenings
You want a holiday with something to look at. Paphos gives you Roman mosaics and rock tombs in the morning, a quiet cove in the afternoon and a harbour dinner at the end of it — without the noise of a resort strip. It is the corner of the island where the history is genuinely on your doorstep rather than a day trip away.
You are Limassol The city that actually stays up
You want somewhere with a pulse. Limassol is the island at its most urban — a long seafront, a marina full of restaurants, the wine villages half an hour up the hill and a nightlife that does not close at eleven. Best base if you would rather have too many options than too few.
You are Larnaca Easy, unhurried, and ten minutes from the plane
You are not here to work for it. Larnaca is the least demanding corner of Cyprus: the airport is on the doorstep, the beach is in town, the seafront palms do the rest. Add the salt lake flamingos in winter and some of the most genuinely lived-in villages on the island just inland.
You are Ayia Napa and Protaras The best water on the island, and you know it
You came for the sea. This is where Cyprus keeps its postcard beaches — Nissi, Fig Tree Bay, Konnos — water so clear it looks edited. Ayia Napa if you want the night to keep going, Protaras if you want the same sea with the volume down.
You are Nicosia No beach, no apologies
You would rather understand a place than sunbathe in it. Nicosia is the last divided capital in Europe, a walled Venetian old town of museums, backstreet coffee and food that is cooked for locals rather than for menus in four languages. The least touristy choice on this list, and the most interesting.
You are the Troodos Mountains Pine air, stone villages, nobody around
The coast is not your Cyprus. Troodos is cooler, greener and slower — painted Byzantine churches under UNESCO protection, villages built into the hillside, wineries, walking trails, and in winter, actual snow. Come here to eat properly and see almost no one.
