Mahalepi or mahallepin is a Cypriot sweet, in the form of a cream with a rose aroma.

It either contains maize flour or rice flour, sugar and rosewater and It is usually served cold either in the form it was originally made in or a small bowl.

Its taste is neutral and it gets it taste from any syrup one puts on top of it for example rose syrup ,sugar or spoon sweet.  It is usually lenten as it is only made with water and flour but it can made with the addition of milk as well. It is usually made during the summer months and it considered refreshing.

Mahalepi is considered to be as one of the characteristic sweets in which rose water is used. The origin of mahalepi is the Middle East. Similar sweets such as this one are made in Lebanon, Syria, Turkey as well as Egypt and Maroco.
