The Larnaca archaeological museum can be found near the city of Larnaca and was founded in 1969. The museum initially was made up of two exhibition rooms and during 1987 and 1988  new rooms and findings were added.

At the moment, the Larnaca archaeological museum contains four galleries, where the display of objects follows a chronological sequence, so that the visitor can have a more complete picture of the historical development of the city of Kition and the Larnaca in general.

Visitors will find two large rare 6th, 5th century findings at the entrance of the Museum. Those are a male and a female limestone sarcophagi which were exhibited with anthropomorphic lids. In addition, visitors will find a replica of the important stele of Sargon II which was found during the 19th century in Kition. The original item is now located at the Pergamon Museum in Berlin.

In addition, the Larnaca archaeological museum hosts another replica, a rare marble statue of the goddess Artemis which was found at Kition at the end of the 19th century. The original item is on display at the Museum of History of Art in Vienna.

In the first room, objects and findings which date back to Prehistoric times are on display. Findings from the Neolithic period to the end of the Middle Bronze age are also on display in a chronological sequence. Most of the findings exhibited in this room come from the important settlements of Choirokoitia and Kalavasos.

The second room displays the historical development of the Larnaca district during the late Bronze Age. In this room, Mycenaean findings such as the Mycenaean craters from Kalavasos and Pyla as well as findings from the Proto-Geometric period are exhibited. In the third room, objects and findings that represent the Cypro-Geometric and Cypro-Archaic periods to the early phases of the Classical period can be seen.

Lastly, in the fourth room of the Larnaca district museum findings from the Classical period up to Roman times and the final phases of antiquity can be seen. Moreover, this room displays copper and iron findings.
