An especially impressive perennial olive tree is located in the area of Potima in the Xyliatos village in the Nicosia district.

The olive tree is considered to be the oldest olive tree in Cyprus, being 800 years old. At the same time the olive tree is also the largest in diameter with a region of 13 metres and a height of 60 metres. It is worth mentioning that the perennial olive tree became under the protection and maintenance of the Forest Department in 2004, after attempts of the Community Board of Xyliatos.

More specifically the Forest Department underlines the importance of trees such as the one in Xyliatos, mentioning that amongst others they are important from a scientific, cultural or other point of view and are excellent specimens of their type as perennial or extreme size.
