Agia Kyriaki Megalomartyra and Agio Ioanni Hozeviti (Romanian Orthodox Church) - Episkopeio Village

The Agia Kyriaki Megalomartyra and Agio Ioanni Hozeviti Romanian Orthodox Church is located in the village of Episkopeio in the Nicosia district. More specifically the church is situated next to the Apostolou Andrea Russian Church.

The Romanian Church is remarkable and what makes it different to the churches that are built in Cyprus, is the fact that it is completely made of wood.

The church is of Maramuresan architecture, a style that can only be found in the north region of Romania - Maramures. The magnificent church is dedicated to both Agia Megalomartyra and Agio Ioanni Hozeviti (The Romanian).

Agia Kyriaki was named that way because she was born on a Sunday (Kyriaki is the Greek word for Sunday) , was arrested when she was 21 years and was tortured until she was finally beheaded.

Agios Ioannis was not tortured but he died peacefully on the 5th of August in 1690. His remains were found intact 20 years later. He is celebrated on the 3rd of October.
