The Limassol zoo is located on the coastal road of Limassol, and is the biggest zoo in Cyprus.

The history of the Limassol Zoo began in 1954 by a random event. A woman from Limassol had a monkey at her house, with which her children and the children in the neighbourhood played with. She decided to donate the money to the zoo which only had some birds at the time. Then many other people from Limassol began donating various animals as well. An American man donated a small elephant that was located at the Singapore Zoo at the time. They named it Julia and it was the children’s favourite. The official Limassol Zoo was created in 1956 by the Mayor Kostas Partaside. Most animals were given to the zoo from abroad for free.

After the new design and construction, the new Limassol Zoo has been created. It has been remodelled with materials such as stone, rope, wood and glass, avoiding concrete and metal.

The animals which are kept at the zoo live in satisfactory areas which are similar to their natural habitat. The zoo offers great attention and love, the correct diet and medical attention to the animals. Areas for visitors have also been created in a pleasant and attracting environment feeling a connection with the animals.

Apart from the entertainment that the zoo offers visitors, it also participates with other zoos in researching protecting, breeding and releasing species at risk of extinction into the wild. With the creation of a modern education centre it offers visitors, mainly the children and student groups with education lectures, tours and briefings for our animals, wildlife and fauna.

Visitors in this small and modern zoo will see remarkable and very attractive animals, birds and reptiles from all continents. Innovative signs with the most interesting information of the specific animal have been prepared for all animals. A new innovation at the zoo, is the on-site daily established educational feedings of particular animals that the keepers will present to the visitors.

A new and unique impressive cafeteria called Flamingo has been created for the recreation and relaxation of the guests. The cafeteria has a view towards the sea, greenery and flamingos. The modern children play area and the children farm corner with the mini goats and sheep will give unforgettable moments to the small visitors.
