The Mavrokolympos Dam is located about 11 kilometres from Paphos and it is easily accessible from the road which connects Paphos with Coral Bay.

Compared to other Cyprus Dams, Mavrokolympos might not be very popular but the area that surrounds the dam is beautiful and a visit for a morning or afternoon walk is well worth it.

In addition, the dam was built in 1966 above the Mavrokolympos River at an altitude of about 100 metres with a capacity of 2.2 million cubical metres. Due to its small size the dam overflows relatively easy and in 2019 Mavrokolymbos Dam overflowed. We were there to capture that magnificent moment and you can enjoy our drone, aerial video of Mavrokolymbos Dam overflowing.

Lastly it is also worth mentioning that the parallel dirt road towards the north side of the lake is in bad shape. The lake is a bird watching point and you may also see some flocks of goats and sheep. The fish located in the lake include carp, roach and seabass.
