The hero Dimitrakis Christodoulou was killed during the Freedom Fight of EOKA of 1955-1959, in an ambush by the British occupants.

He was killed near the Potamitissa Village in the area of Pitsilia on the 17 of February 1957 along with Sotiri Tsaggari and Styliano Lena.

A bust of the hero was placed in honour and memory in the central square in Deryneia Village, next to the Byzantine chapel of Agiou Georgiou.

The unveiling of the bust took place by the Greek Ambassador on the 12th of June 1966.
